‘MIMOSA’ (2016) Joan Serra Memorial

Dance show created on the occasion of the presentation of the book "Dance in school. The mastery of Joan Serra", written by Joan Figueres and published by the Association of Teachers Rosa Sensat. Mimosa is a very common plant in the Baix Montseny (Catalunya). It makes a very fragrant flower, of a raised yellow, that even when it withers it makes it pretty. As it blooms at the end of winter, it is ideal to decorate lapels, bows and hats, the day of the Ball of Gitanes. Mimosa is also the name given to the piece created on the occasion of the book presentation in Sant Esteve de Palautordera: "Dance in school. The mastery of Joan Serra", written by Joan Figueres. Joan Serra Vilamitjana dedicated his whole life to dance. He was a dancer and choreographer. His origins were folklore and traditional dance but his vision of dance was universal. He worked the body language and deepened in the search for his own gesture. Mimosa wants to be the expression in the form of dance of the recognition that Joan Serra and his work deserve.

Life is brutal! The movement you find inside I can not avoid feeling movement I move around the center The center is lost I often find it in the stomach… I walk there Changes in movement lead me to language I like the circle Open, closed, blurred Write my language with the tip of the foot Improvisation of the referents The ‘flat point’ of the constant change… The caress in the movement in dance… Dance is knowing how to look Life is brutal! Dance is brutal!
