Seeking the truth
Seeking the truth is an abstract, physical and compositional dance solo piece which focuses on the states of frustration, disagreement, need to belong and sense of rejection. This work is an exploration that extends beyond collective questions. It delves into the inner revolution of identity and contemplates the encounters between diverse cultures and beliefs. It raises poignant questions about belonging in a world where rejection can loom at every corner.
The Earth rotates around itself and at the same time moves around the Sun without me having anything to do with it. It is simply like that. Throughout my evolution as an individual I realize that the body I inhabit will not continue in these conditions forever, that Humanity is drifting lost, searching for something it never finds, running. Why do we run? To what or where are we late? During the last few years I have experienced a professional transition that now invites me to reflect on rejection. It is no longer about putting the focus on gratitude, but on understanding how to deal with the feeling of abandonment, denial and being ignored.
All these aspects attack one’s ego. At that moment a decision has to be made: do I accept, do I rebel against the offense, do I reject, do I despise as well? There are many possibilities between forgiving, letting go or scratching back. Rejection affects us emotionally and creatively. From these obstacles also arises the dance. One in response to all that was and remains painful and unpleasant.
A dance dedicated to the silence and ignorance of people and their bad practices; a dance dedicated to those who have harmed us physically and mentally throughout our childhood; a dance dedicated to obsolete and stale politics; a dance dedicated to those who think they know better than others and abandon ship by saving themselves first, without patience or generosity; a dance for the lovers who never loved and took advantage of our empathy. A dance in response to the hostility that any minority or marginalized group receives just for the fact of being so. A dance also dedicated to censorship. A work also dedicated to the inner revolution we experience in our awakening of identity, as well as the encounter (sometimes clash) of that awakening with the society and the world that rejects or judges us.
All this is danced, it has form and content at the same time. And for this, you have to put the body. Once again, the body has the last word. With the actions and acts made from my body I transform the space and the sensations that injustice produces in me. Far from being grateful, it is time to fight, although also from the sweetness that requires concentration. Access to the vomit of violence is much easier. I choose calm and grit at the same time. Never one without the other.
